Abstract

In this study, the construction of vulnerability index consists of the selection of study areas with 8 agro-ecological zones (AEZ) and the list of indicators for Vietnam. In each AEZ, a potential list of indicator is selected for each of three component of vulnerability. The indicators are selected based on the availability of data and the direct concerning with agricultural activity and food security as well as farmer incomes. Thirteen variables (indicators) represented in three groups (exposure; sensitivity and adaptive capacity) were computed for Vietnam case of food production and poverty alleviation. As total vulnerability is a function of different indicator selected. Some indicators are very explicative for vulnerability in case of variation in temperature and rainfall but not good for the case of sea level rise. The absolute value of vulnerability is highly dependent on available set of input data and it may be change over time for a definite AEZ.
